The rules for using CopyrightChecker: what a report is and is not, what you may upload, how credits and subscriptions work.

Last updated: 2026-10-14

CopyrightChecker at copyrightchecker.org is operated by JINYAN LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company ("CopyrightChecker", "we", "us"). These terms apply when you use the site. By using it you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

What CopyrightChecker does

You give us a video or audio file. We identify the music in it with third-party recognition services and tell you which recordings we found, who holds the rights where that is known, and how likely a platform is to flag them.

There are two ways to check:

  • Free clip check. Your browser cuts a 12-second clip and only that clip is sent to us. You get 3 free checks a day without an account and 5 a day when signed in, on any plan.
  • Full scan. Your browser extracts the soundtrack of the whole file (mono audio, no video) and uploads it, and we check it in 12-second segments. Full scans use credits.

A report is an estimate, not legal advice

Please read this part carefully.

  • A report is produced automatically. It is our best estimate based on what the recognition services matched. It can miss music, match the wrong recording, or get the rights holder wrong.
  • A "no match" result does not mean the music is free to use. It means we did not find it in the catalogues we search.
  • We do not decide what YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook or any other platform does. Their Content ID and rights-management systems, and the rights holders behind them, make their own decisions and change their rules. We do not guarantee that a video will not be claimed, muted, blocked, demonetised or taken down, whatever risk level a report shows.
  • Nothing on this site is legal advice and using it does not create a lawyer–client relationship. If a decision matters, for example a commercial release or a dispute, check the licence terms with the rights holder or ask a lawyer.

What you may upload

  • Only upload files you own or have permission to process this way.
  • Don't upload anything illegal, or anything that infringes someone else's rights beyond the music you want checked.
  • Don't try to get around the daily limits, the bot check, or payment, and don't scrape the service or overload it. Automated access needs our written permission.

We may suspend an account or block access if we see abuse.

Your account

You can use free clip checks without an account. To run full scans, buy credits or keep reports, you need one. You can sign up with Google or with an email address and password. Keep your login details safe; you are responsible for what happens under your account. You must be at least 16, or the minimum age to use online services where you live if that is higher.

Credits and payments

  • 1 credit scans 12 seconds of audio. A 30-minute soundtrack uses 150 credits. The number of credits a scan needs is shown before you start it.
  • Single scan: $4.99 once, for 150 credits.
  • Creator: $9 a month for 300 credits, or $86 a year for 3,600. Pro: $29 a month for 1,500 credits, or $278 a year for 18,000.
  • Subscription credits are added each time a period is paid. Credits you have bought or received through a subscription currently do not expire, and unused credits carry over. If we ever introduce an expiry, it will only apply to credits bought after we announce it.
  • Credits have no cash value and can't be transferred to another account.
  • If a scan fails, its credits come back to your balance automatically. You don't need to ask.
  • Prices are in US dollars. Your bank may add currency conversion fees.
  • We are the seller. JINYAN LLC sells every purchase and provides the service under these terms. Payments are processed by Stripe, which issues the receipt. Any sales tax or VAT that applies is shown at checkout before you pay.

Subscriptions and cancelling

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account settings, and you must cancel before a renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period. Cancelling stops all future charges; your plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for, and you keep the credits already added to your account. Periods already paid are not refunded, in full or in part, except under the 7-day rule in Refunds below.

Refunds

Payments are generally non-refundable. The one exception: if you ask within 7 days of a charge and haven't used any of the credits that charge added, we refund it, minus the payment processing fees charged on that payment, and remove those credits. This applies to one-time purchases and to each subscription charge, including renewals.

Otherwise, cancelling a subscription takes effect at the end of the period you've paid for, and that period is not refunded, in full or in part. Failed scans are returned in credits automatically, and we correct duplicate or mistaken charges. Details are in our Refund Policy.

Where the law gives you a right to withdraw from a digital-content purchase (for example in the EU or UK), you agree that it ends once you start using the credits. If you dispute a charge with your bank instead of contacting us, we may suspend the account while the dispute is open.

Your content and our service

You keep all rights to what you upload. You give us permission to process it, and to send it to our recognition providers, only to produce your report. What we store and for how long is set out in the Privacy Policy.

The site, its software and its design belong to us. Track names, artwork and other details in a report belong to their owners and are shown only to identify the music.

Availability and changes

We try to keep the service running, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. Recognition providers can be slow or down, and we may change, limit or stop features.

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will say so on the site or by email before it takes effect. Using CopyrightChecker after that means you accept the new terms.

Limits on our liability

We provide CopyrightChecker "as is". To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including lost revenue or earnings, a claim, mute, strike or takedown on any platform, or decisions you make based on a report. Our total liability to you for anything related to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded.

Ending your use

You can stop using CopyrightChecker at any time and ask us to delete your account by emailing us. We may close accounts that break these terms. Sections about reports being estimates, liability and your content continue to apply after an account is closed.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you have a problem, please email us first; most issues are resolved that way, and we ask that you give us 30 days to try before starting a claim. Any dispute that can't be resolved informally will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction. Either of us may instead bring an individual claim in small-claims court where it qualifies. Nothing here removes protections that the consumer law of the place you live gives you and that can't be waived by contract.
