What CopyrightChecker collects when you check music in a video, who processes your audio, and how long we keep it.

Last updated: 2026-10-14

This policy explains what CopyrightChecker (copyrightchecker.org, operated by JINYAN LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company; "we", "us") collects, why, who else handles it, and how long we keep it. Questions or requests: support@copyrightchecker.org.

The short version

  • Your video never leaves your device. Your browser takes the audio out of it and only the audio is uploaded.
  • Audio is sent to music recognition services (ACRCloud, and AudD as a fallback) to identify the songs.
  • Full-scan uploads are deleted from our storage as soon as the scan finishes, and in any case within about 24 hours.
  • We keep the results (which songs were found), not the audio.
  • We never see your card number. Payments are processed by Stripe.

The audio you check

Free clip checks. Your browser cuts a 12-second clip from your file and sends only that clip, with the file name and length, to our server. We pass the clip to ACRCloud (or AudD if ACRCloud can't answer) and store the result. We don't keep the clip itself. We do keep a fingerprint of it (a hash, from which the audio can't be rebuilt) so that if the same clip is checked again within 30 days we can reuse the answer instead of sending the audio again.

A free check result is saved with its file name at a long, hard-to-guess address. Anyone you share that link with can open it.

Full scans. Your browser extracts the soundtrack of the whole file as mono audio and uploads it directly to our storage (Cloudflare R2). ACRCloud (or AudD) fetches it from there through a temporary link to identify the music. When the scan finishes or fails, we delete the upload. A storage rule also removes anything left behind after one day, so a full-scan upload doesn't stay with us for more than about 24 hours. ACRCloud handles full scans in a file-scanning workspace on our ACRCloud account, and we delete the file from that workspace once the result is in. The report, which lists the matches and timestamps but no audio, stays in your account and only you can open it.

Recognition providers. ACRCloud and AudD receive the audio only to identify the music, and handle it under their own privacy terms. They don't receive your name or email address.

Your account

When you create an account we store your email address, your name, and your profile picture if you sign in with Google. If you sign up with email, we store your password only as a secure hash. With Google sign-in, Google tells us your name, email and picture; we don't get your Google password.

At sign-up we also record the country your connection comes from, your IP address, your browser language, and how you found us (the referring site and any campaign tags in the link). We use this to prevent abuse and to understand which channels work. Sign-in sessions record the IP address and browser of each session for security.

We email you only about your account, such as confirming your address or resetting your password. Payment receipts come from Stripe.

Payments

Payments are processed by Stripe. Card details go straight to Stripe and never reach our servers. Stripe tells us what you bought, the amount, the payment status and your billing email, and we keep that order record for accounting. Stripe's handling of your data is covered by the Stripe Privacy Policy.

Daily limits and bot protection

To enforce the free daily limits we store a salted hash of your IP address with each free check, not the address itself. Free checks are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a real person is using the site. Turnstile may look at your browser and connection to do this; see Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Cookies and analytics

We use a few cookies that the site needs to work: your sign-in session, your theme and cookie choices, and short-lived cookies that remember which link brought you here until you sign up.

We may use Google Analytics or Plausible to count visits and see which pages are used. Where we ask for consent, analytics cookies are only set after you accept them, and you can change your choice at any time with the cookie settings link in the footer. Plausible doesn't use cookies.

We don't sell your personal data and we don't share it for advertising.

Who else handles your data

  • Cloudflare hosts the site, the database and file storage, and provides Turnstile and email sending.
  • ACRCloud and AudD identify the music in the audio you send.
  • Stripe processes payments. If you pay with Link, Stripe's saved-checkout service, Link's own terms apply to that.
  • Google provides Google sign-in and, if enabled, Google Analytics.
  • Plausible, if enabled, provides visit counts.

These providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States.

How long we keep things

  • Full-scan audio upload: deleted when the scan ends, at most about 24 hours.
  • Free-check clip: not stored; sent to the recognition provider only.
  • Clip fingerprint: reused for 30 days to answer repeat checks.
  • Check results and scan reports: until you ask us to delete them or close your account.
  • Account details: until you close your account.
  • Orders and payment records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to show you the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or give you a copy. Email support@copyrightchecker.org from the address on your account. We will delete your account and reports, except order records we must keep for accounting. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to object to some processing or to complain to your data protection authority.

Children

CopyrightChecker is not meant for children under 16 and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and point it out on the site.
